Mark Zuckerburg (Facebook) beats Julian Assange (Wikileaks) to Time´s Person of the Year

So it really comes as no surprise that the man who brought Facebook to the world is now the Time magazine “Person of the Year.”

Who would the american public really want on the front cover? Mark Zuckerburg who brought 500 million people together in an extremely clever website of information sharing or Julian Assange – ex-hacker and now whistleblower responsible for exposing the biggest breach of  National Security in US history? I think it is a no brainer but I did hope that the FOI advocates had put enough votes in to win over the Facebook geeks.

Let´s put it this way. All it takes is a few phone calls from government agencies to put pressure on the editor of Time magazine to push the decision in the opposite direction away from Julian Assange who is in the process of appealing against extradiction from the UK to Sweden.  The US are putting pressure on Sweden to delay the charges against Assange in a hope they can applay for his extradition to the US on possible espionage charges.

Both are reformed geeks and ex-hackers but who is putting money into the pockets of the Americans and who is disclosing military secrets? Who is considered the greater threat to National Security?
